Splish! Splash! We love our baths!

Recently, the kids started taking their baths together. I figured this was ok since Benny had already asked all of these embarrasing (and somewhat hysterical) anatomy questions when Sophie was born. It saves me some time too, as bathtime usually takes close to an hour. They love to play and splash together. Of course, Sophie only wants to play with what Ben has chosen to play with. You can see she is still in the baby bathtub. I tried her out of it once. Our little daredevil wanted to swim laps-she crawled from one end to the other. It made me really nervous. So she remains in the baby tub until another adult can help me or I miracuously grow a second, and much needed set of arms (not likely). Anyway you look at it though, bathtime is a happy end to our day.

Our soldiers....

Many of you have already read the Time.com news article about Nick and 1-4 CAV, but I thought I would post it too. It was such a great article, and I am so proud of Nick and his soldiers! They are doing great things for their neighborhood, and the people there are already getting very anxious and sad about them leaving. One family asked Nick recently if he could stay longer. His response was "You'll have to ask my wife!"..... you all know what my response would be! Here is the link to the article:

This is a recent photo of Nick and some of his men. Benny wondered why his daddy wasn't wearing cool sunglasses like the other soldiers. Well, poor Nick is nearly blind and cannot wear his contacts in Iraq. He doesn't qualify yet for Lasik surgery (at least here are Fort Riley), because his eyes are so bad! Maybe sometime this year!

Gimme a kiss!

The other night we went to dinner at our friend Piper's house. She has a little boy, Jackson, who is just 12 days older than Sophie. It seems the normal gender roles may have been a bit reversed. Jackson is very sweet and he loves to give kisses and hugs. Sophie is a bit of a tomboy, and well, she is just too busy to love! Jackson kept trying to grab Sophie and give her a big kiss, but Sophie kept refusing his advances (good girl Sophie!). We couldn't quite capture Jackson's attempts on film, as Sophie kept pulling away all too quickly. It was so cute because she kept giving him a 'what on earth are you doing to me look'.

On another note, it is amazing how fast these two kids have grown! They were born just 5 and 7 weeks after their daddys deployed. On the old 12 month deployment cycle, their daddys would be coming home in a few weeks. Sadly, Nick and JJ will miss their 1st birthdays as well. No worries, though, because we plan on having a big birthday blowout when they return in April!

Finally! We have joined the blogging community!

Finally, we are here! I have been wanting to do this forever! The kiddos are both occupied (a rarity), so I decided to get us started. Nick probably would have enjoyed this during his deployment, but we still have three more months to go to make up for lost time. To catch everyone up.......

We are stationed at Fort Riley

Benjamin (really Benny now....) is 4 1/2!

Sophie is 9 months

Nick has been in Iraq nearly a year, and has been in command for 2 years

I spend my time taking care of the kids, the dog and the FRG. I still go to MCCW and also a Bible study at my neighbors house (once again, all spouses of deployed soldiers).

Not much changes!

I really hope I will be able to keep this up!
